Mercury, a college sports content agency founded by former Penn State football tight end Adam Breneman, announced a commitment to furthering its investment in Penn State football Thursday, with a three-year deal with Penn State Sports Properties to build up an “NIL-driven content network called ‘State Media,’” per a press release.
Mercury will create a series of Penn State shows designed to give “athletes brand-building and NIL opportunities,” and events for Penn State football fans. Penn State football alums Christian Hackenberg, Aeneas Hawkins, and Brandon Bell were announced as part of the group’s production talent alongside Penn State Athletics’ Destiny Sanchez. Hardcore PSU Football, a pre-existing fan-hosted podcast on the team, also announced a partnership with State Media.
Mercury also pledged an annual six-figure commitment to Penn State’s NIL Fund, Happy Valley United, which serves all varsity teams at Penn State.
“I could not be more excited to help build the future of college sports in State College,” Breneman said in the release. “We’ll work hand in hand with Penn State Sports Properties, collective, and fans to create something truly lasting and bring Penn State fans closer to the program and players they love.”
Mercury’s first fan event will take place in just over a week on Friday, August 18, which the company describes as a “VIP tour of Beaver Stadium which will include a locker room tour.” Fans will also have the chance to “play catch” with Breneman and other Penn State football alumni.
